Dr. Robert A. Gadlage and the Associates of Gadlage Ear, Nose and Throat Multispecialty Group proudly welcome Kim E. Schmitt , MD FACS in the specialty of Otorhinolaryngology as our Surgical Associate. Dr. Schmitt brings her decades of experience gained as a respected member of the surgical community of Birmingham, Alabama, as well as northern California, now to our offices in Duluth and Snellville, Georgia.

Dr. Schmitt is Board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as well as Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine and has been awarded Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Schmitt is fully experienced in the complete spectrum of ear, nose and throat problems with special expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the nose and sinuses - including by Balloon Sinuplasty - and the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea.

Dr. Schmitt received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and French from the University of Alabama while following a pre-medical curriculum. At graduation, she received the school’s top honor, the Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar Award, given for maintaining the highest academic average of the University.

She attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama (UAB) where she was inducted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Her internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology were both performed at the prestigious UAB, as well.

Dr. Schmitt lived in Miami, Florida and Paris, France, before settling back in her hometown of Birmingham where she owned  a solo private practice in Otorhinolaryngology and Sleep Medicine for more than 20 years. She then practiced in northern California before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandson.

When not working, she enjoys dancing (especially tap and Latin ballroom), fast cars, backpacking in the Sipsey Wilderness in northwestern Alabama, gardening, old Western movies, and listening to an embarrassing number of audiobooks to further her mild obsession with the exploits of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. Her daughter and son-in-law are attorneys in Atlanta and Dr. Schmitt is the proud “Nonnie” of a one-year old grandson, Sawyer.
